A message from the national Libertarian Party: “First Amendment Defense Act”

A message from the national Libertarian Party:

Ted Cruz is planning to reintroduce the “First Amendment Defense Act”, which allows private businesses to refuse service to LGBTQ people.

I believe that any business has the right to refuse service to any person for any reason. But the Republican Party’s fixation on the Q+ community is only revealing its true colors. The right to refuse service should apply to all businesses, for all reasons. If Christian businesses can refuse service to gay customers, then gay businesses owners should have the same right to refuse service to Christian customers.

I strongly believe in a complete, unbiased, reaffirmation of the first amendment. I propose the following as the Real First Amendment Defense Act.

1. Allow any business to refuse service to anyone for any reason.

2. The FCC censorship programs should be immediately defunded and dismantled. Gutting the artistic value of music to appeal to those who don’t even listen to it violates the First Amendment. Those who find lyrics offensive can simply not listen.

3. All red tape restrictions on pornography businesses, including obscenity laws and 2257 laws, should be immediately repealed.

Republican Party: Do you actually support the First Amendment? If so,
pass all three parts of the above legislation.

Or do you just support bigotry under the guise of the First Amendment? If so, keep doing what you’re doing. So many gay Republicans and socially tolerant Republicans have left to join the Libertarian Party, and we welcome the rest.

Respectfully,

Arvin Vohra
Vice Chair
Libertarian Party
