Looking ahead to 2017 and beyond
Plenty has been said about what took place in 2016. I don’t want to stir the pot or use 20/20 hindsight to pretend I knew all along how things would turn out. The truth is, unfortunately stranger than fiction sometimes.
With a reality show millionaire as president, it does make it very clear that in 2017, just about anything will be possible, including more success for the Libertarian Party. Our growth nationally was incredible and our growth locally in South Dakota was inspiring.
I am very proud of all of the hard work and time spent by our 100% volunteer staff and supporters. It’s your efforts that doubled our turnouts and got people excited about being free. I am also glad to see so many new supporters every single day on our Facebook and Twitter pages commenting about how they hate the two party cycle and want to take the first steps towards freeing themselves and their community.
One thing the incoming administration provides for us, is the same thing the outgoing one provided for Libertarians will be “job security”. Obama’s agenda made our jobs more difficult and more necessary. This new cabinet will be no different. Our jobs to expand liberty and defend freedom will not slow down in 2017.
I can’t say with any certainty what the future holds for us, as a party. It is tough to be a 3rd party in South Dakota. There are many social issues to address and overcome and the state laws don’t make it any easier on us. Unlike other states, our party status is not dictated by the Presidential race, but our Gubernatorial race in 2018.
I can say with 100% certainty that we will continue to work hard to maximize freedom and minimize government and keep South Dakota one of the most Libertarian states in the nation!
Thank you everyone for a great 2016, my first “year” as your State Chair was a great success because of all of our teamwork.
