The Libertarian Party of South Dakota’s candidate for US Senate, Tamara J Lesnar has shared a little bit of background with us so that we can share it with you all today. Get to know a little bit about her, in her own words.
“Hello, my name is Tamara Lesnar. I would like to introduce myself and my life history. The reason I share this with all of AMERICA is because not only does my vote affect South Dakota it affects you too.
I was born and bred in Chicago. However, my Father was born and bred in Day County, South Dakota. My founding family immigrated to the United States to New York through it’s port and settled in Chicago. It’s a very interesting story.
They moved to South Dakota where they claimed 160 acres of land in Day County after the Homestead Act of 1862 was passed. This farm has been passed down and owned generationally since then and will continue to do so. My great Grandfather Joseph Lesnar and two other Joseph’s built St. Joseph’s Church which is in use today.
My parents brought me here every year since I was born. As I got older, I began working on the farm. First, collecting eggs. I loved the chickens and spent a lot of time there. One day when I was three or four years old, my parents were searching for me frantically as a tornado was heading our way. They finally found me sitting on the ledge of the door frame to the chicken coop reading a made up story from a Cracker Jack book as I wasn’t in school yet to learn reading.
Other duties included stacking hay, both in a stack cage with a pitch fork and then as bails in the loft. I aided my Uncle in making ground feed, UGH! For those who don’t know what it’s like, it’s made with oats and other grains. Talk about itching all day until the job was done and you could shower. I cleaned the silo from silage.
I placed the feed in front of stalls where the cows I fetched for milking went into. I fed the calves and cleaned the floor of manure after they came in and when they left. One time I slipped and ended up in the gutter where the manure collected during milking. My Grandmother would not let me take a shower and I had to wash off at the well pump where the water was freezing. When it was time for plowing, I had to pick rocks in what was a glacial area of the Northeastern part of South Dakota. Boy those rocks must have propagated like rabbits as every year new rocks popped up. I thought I got rid of them my first year. I quickly learned how naive I was to planting.
My parents finally settled in South Dakota and it was always a haven for my soul living in a busy city and attending Colleges and the University. I eventually owned my parents home and reside in the home now.
Living in a city makes you streetwise and this is a good skill as it teaches you to protect yourself, know if someone is BS-ing, up to something nefarious, or have bad intentions towards you. This skill is why I see the evil machinations of the two political parties. Being a resident of both metropolitan and rural areas gives me the insight to both societal fabrics and the underlying social issues.
Having this insight is important when creating and passing laws as many people do not know the other’s issues. Laws must be written equally for both types of communities. Many rural citizens tend to hate metropolitans and it’s busy nature. I have many times heard from rural citizens that they will never visit “that” city again and are glad to be back. Both communities are awesome!
I can say in parody of Donnie and Marie Osmond’s show, I’m a little bit country and I’m a little bit metro. Keep visiting to continue reading my life story.
